The Problem

Keeping access open to a busy car sales forecourt is essential for the public to access the vehicles however prone to flash flooding the client wanted a fast deployable solution to stop surface water inundation whilst also having something that looked visually appealing.

M3 Floodtec designed, manufactured and installed a set of twin leaf timber flood gates 6.3m wide x 0.64m high across the main forecourt area. Capable of being closed in seconds the gates are manufactured from sustainable Accoya also provide an extra means of securing the forecourt when the garage is closed.

We flooded at least three times per year for the last ten years due to bad road drainage maintenance on the surrounding highway and lack of responsibility from local landowners for clearing ditches- we are situated nowhere near a river (!) so it is only surface water and negligence that are affected by.

We had two major floods in 2021, in total the damages cost us approximately £70k. We were closed for days to clean the site which was full of mud and dirty water impacted from neighbouring farmland, only for this to happen again a few weeks later. Our MOT bay, incorporating an 8ft pit, was out of action for over a month due to water breaking specialist internal parts of machinery built into our floor.

We lost furniture, electronics and many specialist parts. There were damages to customer cars also. A whole floor had to be ripped out, all areas dehumidified (by an industrial company) and sanitation deep cleans had to be undertaken.

I cannot recommend M3 enough- they have sorted a serious issue for us as a small family business. Business continuity was continually disrupted throughout the year but now the floodgate eradicates this issue for us. It is a robust and attractive looking solution to a nightmare problem. We get a lot of compliments on the gate! It is a lifeline to keeping our business going.
