During June 2009 severe flash flooding caused major disruption to homes in Rotherham. Continuous heavy rain meant properties were under threat from flooding as drainage systems were overwhelmed and unable to operate. Many properties fell victim to surface water flooding entering through door apertures and airbricks caused by overflowing watercourses.

Heavy rain continued for a further 4/5 days, and given the ground was already saturated, flood catchment areas quickly formed leading to surface water flooding seeping into properties. Flooding occurred when drainage networks failed to perform due to excessive rain water settling in catchment areas.

Following the floods, Rotherham MBC appointed consultants to undertake surveys to identify properties at risk of flooding. It was identified that 40 properties were eligible to receive Property Level Protection.

Our specialist technical staff completed a survey of each property to determine all points of water ingress to specify the most appropriate solution.  It was highlighted in post flood reports the main areas of concern were flooding through airbricks and door apertures. With this in mind the following measures were specified; Anti-Flood Airbricks, Flood Defender Doors and a supply of associated products including; Silicone and Waterstop.
