Imperial College, London

THE PROBLEM

To provide a flood defence package for Imperial College London’s basement laboratory. There is a surge tank within the building, and flood defences were required to protect the rest of the building from flooding if the surge tank ever failed.

THE SOLUTION

The solution for Imperial College was a combination of both Flood Defender Barriers and 2 x Double Steel Security, Fire & Flood Doors.

A prerequisite was that the steel doors had a glazed window so that staff are able to look into the lab and check that the surge tank has not failed before entering. The doors also needed to come with the optional 4 hour fire rating protection.

The client also required that the design and colour of the door was in-keeping with the current colour scheme – black frames with red doors.

In addition to the doors, Flood Defender Barriers were installed to protect some of the buildings storage units.
