Eldon Square, Newcastle

Eldon Square is Newcastle’s most popular retail centre, housing a wide range of shops, leisure facilities and an exciting new Restaurant Quarter. It is one of the largest city centre shopping destinations in the UK.

The 131,000 square metre facility, sitting on the banks of the River Tyne, was acquired in 2013 by shopping centre management company, intu.

The behind the scenes operational facilities such as service corridors, plant rooms, fire exits and delivery bays are clearly fundamental to the efficient day to day running of a busy town centre shopping centre.

14 Steel Flood Security & Fire Doors and 10 Flood Defender Barriers were installed to protect ground level service entrances.

The Kitemark certified Steel Doors are unique to the marketplace. Once closed and locked they provide ongoing protection from flooding, fire and unauthorised entry, thus making them a perfect solution for the 24/7 ‘back of house’ shopping environment.

Manufactured in the UK, the Flood, Security & Fire Door holds two Kitemarks to PAS 1188-1:2014. The standard door leaf is manufactured from 1.5mm galvanised steel, zintec treated to prevent corrosion and has high grade seals. Available in both single and double doors with unique seals and hardware, the door offers peace of mind when the threat of flood is high, whilst simultaneously operating as a security door.

The Flood Defender Barrier also has BSI Kitemark™ certification. This superior flood defence barrier is a bespoke, made to measure product. Suitable for either standard inward or outward opening doors, the system can be produced using seven different fixing systems so that it can be fitted to virtually any door opening.

The Steel Doors were installed in August 2016. Defender barriers due to be installed October 2016.

"The installation of the flood doors was efficient and well planned. The operatives were knowledgeable about the product they were installing and were able to work well in challenging conditions on a very busy site"
